If you do, you have a bonus and are not going to complain. Now, you may well find it tucked away in the car's documentation once you get it home, but equally you may not. This then led to them having to buy loads of discs or SD cards, so they got to the point where they were losing a lot of cash (and getting a shed loads of complaints) over it and thus decided to make it a standard thing that the map media was not supplied/present. Having dealt with one particular car supermarket in the past, they had a lot of instances where the map media was missing (before the days when the SD cards were tied to the VIN, which I confess is a new thing to me, and would therefore work in any car of that model) and others where it was of course present this became all the more complex when someone had viewed and bought a car, seen the sat-nav working up to the point of purchase, only to find the media missing when they collected the car a day or two later because someone had nicked it to put in another customers car.

I am told only dealers can supply and code a replacement SD card and doubtless charge the customer a small fortune for the privilege! From what I have read the SD card is coded to a particular car so taking it out and putting it in a different one won't work. Browsing XE's for sale on line a number of them seem to have the SD card missing from its slot and I don't understand why so many seem to 'go walkies' and what impact it has on the operating system. He managed to switch the sat- nav on but I didn't try to programme in a detination so I was far from convinced. He went away for a consultation ! and later returned claiming it was not needed to operate the sat - nav. The reason I ask is that yesterday I went to look at an XE at a car supermarket - a fairly average example IMO ! The SD card was missing from its slot in the compartment under the armrest and I asked the salesmen where it was. Sorry if this sounds a stupid question but in the current range of Jaguar's such as the XE, XF, F pace etc does the SD card need to be in its slot for the sat-nav to operate properly?
